Character and mood

Pier Gold was made for evenings by the sea, when the light sits low and everything takes on a faint glow. The colors are warm without being pushed too far. The mood is cinematic, but stays close to what you actually saw when you were standing out there on the pier.

The preset lifts warmth in the midtones and pulls the highlights back just enough to keep them from blowing out. Instead of going white, they hold a soft, luminous quality. Shadows pick up a subtle warm-brown cast that adds depth without turning black. The contrast is built up gradually, giving the image weight without making it feel processed. HSL adjustments soften cool blues and strengthen gold and orange tones, exactly the colors you find in evening light falling on water and sand.

Pier Gold works best in golden hour and evening light. Think surfers on a wave-break coast, silhouettes against an orange sky, pier photography at sunset, or beach portraits where the light comes in at a low angle. Lifestyle and portrait shots taken on the beach in the late afternoon also respond well to this preset. If there is warmth in the light, Pier Gold will bring more of it out.

You reach for Pier Gold when you want a photo that feels like a frame from a film. Not the flat, desaturated look that is everywhere right now, but something warmer and more alive. It is the right preset when you want to hold onto the mood of that evening, not just document what was there.

One practical tip: adjust the exposure after applying the preset, because Pier Gold is calibrated for raw files at standard exposure. For slightly overexposed shots, bring exposure down by 0.3 to 0.5 stops and the highlights will fall into place. On overcast days, nudge the temperature slider a few degrees to the right, around three to five, to restore the warmth that flat light tends to take away.
