ICC profiles (Capture One)
An ICC profile in Capture One tells the software how your camera model's colours should be rendered correctly. Capture One is known for its accurate camera-specific profiles, which help produce the lovely colours photographers come for. The profile works together with the Base Characteristics as the foundation of your edit.
For most cameras Capture One picks the right profile automatically, but you can switch it yourself for a different colour interpretation. Working tethered or in the studio, you can even build your own ICC profile with a ColorChecker for perfectly accurate colour. The profile sets the starting point, after which you steer further with the Color Editor and curve. Tip: build a custom profile when colour accuracy is crucial, for example in product or reproduction photography.
