Contrast / Pivot

With the contrast slider you make the difference between dark and light bigger or smaller. The pivot sets the point around which that contrast is built, so which brightness level stays in the middle. Together they give you fine control over how your image feels.

Raise contrast and shadows get darker while highlights get lighter, with the pivot as the hinge point. Set the pivot lower and more of your image stays dark while the highlights lift, and the other way around. In DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro you find these sliders in your primary correction. Tip: keep an eye on your waveform so you don't unknowingly crush shadows or blow out highlights when raising contrast.
