False color
False color is a tool that translates your image's brightness into fixed colors, so you read exposure at a glance. Each color stands for a brightness value, from dark to blown out. It's especially handy for exposing skin tones and highlights just right.
On set and in the edit you use false color to see whether you're losing anything in black or blowing out in white. There's often a specific color for a well-exposed skin tone, a quick check for portraits and interviews. In DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro you can enable false color as a view. Tip: learn which color matches which value in your tool, because that scale differs per camera and program.
