Histogram (video)
The histogram in video shows the spread of dark to light tones as a graph from left to right. Shadows sit on the left, highlights on the right, and the height shows how much of the image falls in that range. It helps you quickly see if your image is too dark or too bright.
For color grading the histogram gives a quick overview, but the waveform tells you more about where in the frame something sits. In DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro the histogram sits with your scopes and often in the correction panel. If your graph runs into the left or right edge, you lose detail in black or white. Tip: use the histogram as a first check, then switch to your waveform and parade for fine-tuning.
