Gradient map

A gradient map links your image's tones to a color gradient: shadows get one color, highlights another. It is a powerful, fast tool for color grading and moody looks. As an adjustment layer it works fully non-destructively.

Add a gradient map as an adjustment layer and pick or build a gradient, for example cool in the shadows and warm in the highlights for a cinematic split-tone. Set the blending mode to Soft Light or lower the opacity, otherwise the effect overpowers. It is ideal for laying a consistent color mood over a series in one step. Tip: make a neutral black-to-white gradient map for a quick, controllable black and white conversion.
