Moth

Moth doesn't sit right. That's the point. This preset pulls the warmth out of a photo and leaves something that feels cold, tense, like the air just before a storm. The colour mood is based on The Silence of the Lambs, a film that uses unease as a compositional element. That feeling is built into every adjustment here.

Technically, Moth works from a base of desaturated grey and deep, cool blacks. The shadows carry a faint blue-green cast, while the midtones are pulled toward grey. Highlights are kept deliberately restrained, never bright, always a little suppressed. The orange and blood-red accents are embedded in the warmer zones of the image, skin tones, candlelight, rusted metal. They surface without demanding attention. The contrast is firm but not harsh. The photo still breathes, but it never feels open or easy.

Moth works well with subjects that already carry tension, or with scenes where you want to introduce it. Street photography in poor light, abandoned spaces, industrial settings, portraits lit from the side or against the light. But ordinary scenes can shift too. A person standing in a hallway. A rain-covered window. A kitchen at night. It doesn't need to be dramatic. The preset makes it unsettling on its own.

You reach for Moth when you want a photo that lingers. Not because it's beautiful, but because it stays with the viewer. It suits photographers who aren't afraid of an image that doesn't feel immediately comfortable. Street photography, documentary work, dark portrait studies. If you use atmosphere as content, Moth makes sense.

One practical note: Moth is designed for a well-exposed image with some room in the shadows. If you apply it to a photo that's already dark, check the blacks slider in Lightroom. Pull it slightly to the right if shadow detail starts to disappear. Everything else the preset handles on its own.
