Wasp Yellow

Wasp Yellow does not try to be subtle. The preset is built around one idea: if there is yellow in your frame, it takes over and does not let go. The yellow becomes brighter, denser, more present. Everything else in the image pulls back into dark, desaturated tones so there is only one place for the eye to go. The mood is borrowed directly from Kill Bill, a film that uses yellow not as decoration but as a blunt instrument. That same directness is baked into this preset.

Technically, Wasp Yellow works through a combination of targeted colour adjustments and hard contrast. Yellow and orange-yellow hues are pushed up in luminance and saturation. At the same time, highlights in the rest of the frame are brought down, and cooler tones like blues and greens are reduced to near-grey. The black is real black, not the soft dark grey you get from many presets. Shadows have weight. Midtones stay readable but do not compete for attention. The result is a frame with one hot centre and a cool, restrained surround.

This preset works best when there is a clear yellow or yellow-green element in your photo. Think of a yellow raincoat in a dark alley, a cab on wet pavement, a road marking or sign, a sunflower against a dark background, or warm artificial light with a strong yellow cast. It works for portraits too, especially if your subject is wearing yellow or standing in warm tungsten light. The more contrast there already is between the yellow element and its surroundings, the harder the preset lands.

You reach for Wasp Yellow when you want a photo that does not ask for attention but takes it. When you have a scene where one colour dominates and you want that colour to speak without dragging the rest of the frame along with it. This is not a preset for soft moods or muted palettes. It is a choice for clarity, for focus, for an image that reads immediately even on a small screen.

A practical tip: if the yellow starts to look flat or washed out, pull the yellow luminance slider in Lightroom down by five to ten points manually. That small adjustment gives the yellow more bite without making it clip. Also check your whites before exporting. Wasp Yellow is strong but it does not recover blown highlights. Shoot in RAW so you have that headroom to work with.
