Not forced, not overdone, but as if the light and colours were always meant to look this way.

Technically, Pole Position works by lifting the midtones, giving photos the open-air brightness that belongs to a sunny race day. The highlights stay controlled, so white sponsor logos and reflections on bodywork don't blow out. The shadows are raised slightly, adding depth without losing detail in the darker areas. Colours are saturated without turning plastic, with extra emphasis on red, yellow and blue. Those are exactly the colours that dominate a starting grid. The white balance leans slightly warm, which reinforces the sunny character of the image.

The preset works best with photos shot in strong daylight or direct sunlight. Think motorsport and automotive photography, but also street scenes full of colour and movement. Markets with colourful stalls, festivals, parades, or any moment where colour carries the story. Outdoor portrait photography on a sunny day also responds well to this preset, especially when the background is lively.

You reach for Pole Position when you want a photo that radiates energy. When the atmosphere of the moment was already there, but the JPEG or RAW file looks flatter than you remember. This preset brings back the vividness your eye saw in the moment. It suits photographers who like direct, expressive images that still look believable.

A practical tip: if the preset feels too strong on a particular photo, lower the intensity in Lightroom to 70 or 80 percent using the amount slider during import or in the preset panel. That gives you just enough colour and brightness without the image losing its credibility.
