Character and mood
Ice hockey is loud, fast and lit by light that exists nowhere else quite the same way. The Neon Arena preset captures exactly that feeling: the cold glow of the ice, the sharp flash of scoreboard ads, the red and blue that lingers in the shadows. This is not a subtle preset. It is one for photos that already have something to say and want to say it louder.
Technically, the preset works from a strong blue shift in the midtones and shadows. The highlights get a slightly warmer edge, which increases the contrast between the cooler underlying tone and the glowing arena lighting. Red pulls toward saturated, almost electric. Blue deepens without losing its detail. The blacks drop slightly, which tightens the scene and gives the action more weight. The result has the colour energy of a North American scoreboard the moment a goal goes in.
The preset works best on photos taken in large sports halls, ice rinks and arenas with mixed artificial lighting. Think close-ups of players in full gear, team shots in front of the ice, or action frames where the stands blur softly in the background. Portrait work under neon lighting, urban night photography and concert shots with hard colour spots also respond well to these settings. Red and blue in the source material is not a requirement, but it does make the result richer.
You reach for Neon Arena when you want a photo that radiates energy without giving up atmosphere. Not every sports photo needs this, but some ask for it. When the light is already dramatic at the moment of capture, the preset reinforces it. When colours came out flat in camera because of mixed light sources, it gives them structure and direction.
A practical tip: adjust the exposure of your photo before applying the preset. Neon Arena is calibrated for correctly exposed or slightly underexposed images. If your photo is too bright, the saturated colours will quickly become too much. Pull the exposure back a third to half a stop in Lightroom, then apply the preset and watch what happens to the shadow detail. That small difference makes the whole thing land much cleaner.
Installation
Lightroom Classic & CC (desktop)
Unzip the downloaded file on your computer. Open Lightroom Classic and go to the Develop module. Right-click the Presets panel, choose 'Import Presets', and select the .xmp file. The preset appears in your list immediately and can be applied to any photo straight away.
Lightroom Mobile
Lightroom Mobile syncs presets via the cloud. Import the .xmp file into Lightroom CC on your desktop first. Once cloud sync completes, the preset is automatically available on your phone or tablet. An Adobe CC subscription is required for this sync feature.
Capture One
Unzip the file. Open Capture One and navigate to the Styles panel. Click the arrow next to 'Styles' and choose 'Import Style'. Select the .costyle file. The style is available in your library immediately. Works with Capture One version 21 and later.
DaVinci Resolve / Premiere Pro (3D LUT)
Copy the .cube file to your application's LUT folder. In DaVinci Resolve via Project Settings → Color Management → LUT folders. In Premiere Pro via the Lumetri Color panel → Creative tab → Look → Browse. The LUT works on both LOG and standard exposed video footage.
