Character and mood
Kingston Town is warmth you can almost feel. The preset conjures the atmosphere of a slow afternoon in Jamaica: shade beneath palm trees, an azure sky trembling with light, colours that look like they were always that way. Relaxed, vivid, alive. Not exaggerated, not fake tropical. Just genuinely summery.
Technically, Kingston Town pushes the greens with intent, but keeps them grounded. Leaves become deep and lush, grass gains body. The blues in sky and water shift toward azure without losing depth. Shadows stay warm rather than black, so the photo breathes. Highlights are pulled back slightly so that strong summer light doesn't blow out. The contrast is present, but soft. Skin tones hold their warmth without turning orange. The overall feel is midday sun, not a filter slapped on top.
This preset works best with outdoor shots in natural light. Street and travel photography in warm countries, open-air portraits, beach scenes, tropical gardens, markets full of colourful goods. Urban photography can work well too, as long as there's greenery or open sky in the frame. Overgrown walls, bikes leaning against fences, kids playing in the street, a barber set up on the pavement. Wherever the light shows up, Kingston Town does its job.
You reach for this preset when your photos need a bit of life. When those holiday shots look flat despite everything you remember about being there, or when a street photo lacks the colour you know the scene had. Kingston Town is also a solid choice when you want a warm, consistent look across a series. The photos don't have to be from Jamaica. The feeling is what matters.
A practical tip: Kingston Town performs best on shots taken between ten in the morning and four in the afternoon, when the light is direct and strong. If your photo was taken in softer morning or evening light, nudge the temperature slider in Lightroom slightly to the right before applying the preset. That way the warm tone of Kingston Town connects more naturally to your base exposure, and you get more out of it.
Installation
Lightroom Classic & CC (desktop)
Unzip the downloaded file on your computer. Open Lightroom Classic and go to the Develop module. Right-click the Presets panel, choose 'Import Presets', and select the .xmp file. The preset appears in your list immediately and can be applied to any photo straight away.
Lightroom Mobile
Lightroom Mobile syncs presets via the cloud. Import the .xmp file into Lightroom CC on your desktop first. Once cloud sync completes, the preset is automatically available on your phone or tablet. An Adobe CC subscription is required for this sync feature.
Capture One
Unzip the file. Open Capture One and navigate to the Styles panel. Click the arrow next to 'Styles' and choose 'Import Style'. Select the .costyle file. The style is available in your library immediately. Works with Capture One version 21 and later.
DaVinci Resolve / Premiere Pro (3D LUT)
Copy the .cube file to your application's LUT folder. In DaVinci Resolve via Project Settings → Color Management → LUT folders. In Premiere Pro via the Lumetri Color panel → Creative tab → Look → Browse. The LUT works on both LOG and standard exposed video footage.
