Character and mood
Oldtimer Glow gives classic cars the look they deserve. Not overly stylised, not nostalgic for its own sake. Just warm, calm and full of character. The golden tones and soft vignette make a photo feel like it has existed for decades, even if you took it yesterday.
The preset gently pulls back the highlights and lifts the shadows, softening the overall contrast so that light flows more naturally across the bodywork. Warm ambers and deep golden yellows emerge in the midtones, while cooler hues in the shadow areas are quietly subdued. The vignette is designed to guide the eye inward, not to draw attention to itself. The result is a photo with depth and weight, and no visible trace of how it got there.
The preset works best with classic and vintage vehicles, whether that is a 1950s Chevrolet, a 1970s Porsche 911 or a European compact from the early 1980s. It pairs well with natural light, particularly during the golden hour or on overcast days with soft, diffused light. Asphalt, gravel, grass and industrial backdrops all work well. Avoid mixed artificial light sources, as the warmth built into the preset can push too far in those conditions.
You reach for Oldtimer Glow when you want the era of the car to live inside the photo, not just in the shape of the vehicle but in the entire mood of the image. If you are covering a classic car rally, photographing a private collection or making a single portrait of a cherished car, this preset gives the photo a sense of time that goes beyond the moment it was taken.
A practical tip: expose your shot about half a stop darker than you normally would before applying the preset. The preset already brings in the light on its own, and starting from a slightly darker base preserves more detail in the paint and bodywork. From there, fine-tune the exposure in Lightroom as needed.
