Natural

Natural does exactly what the name says. It lets skin look the way it does in real life, on a good day, in good light. Warm without being overdone. A gold-orange undertone that is present without demanding attention. The cool shadows keep everything balanced, giving the photo room to breathe.

On a technical level, Natural shifts the white balance slightly toward warmth, without letting yellow or orange tones take over. Highlights are pulled back gently, shadows are lifted just a little but carry a cool cast that adds depth. The contrast is deliberately moderate: enough to hold structure, not so much that the photo feels heavy. The colour curve works quietly. Skin tones stay true to life, on darker complexions too, in mixed light too. There is no colour cast toward red, green or blue. What you see is what the skin is.

This preset works best with portraits in natural light: outside in diffused daylight, near a window, or during golden hour. Street portraits where the person is the subject fit well here. But so does reportage photography centred on people, spontaneous moments on the street, or documentary work, any situation where you want to preserve reality but round off the rough edges. Scenes with green or yellow tones in the environment, like trees or old foliage, respond well to the cool shadows Natural brings.

You reach for Natural when you do not want to dramatise a photo. When the person in front of your lens carries the story, and you do not want to transform that person into something they are not. Or when you want to make a series of photos from the same shoot feel consistent without rebalancing colour for each frame individually. Natural also works well as a starting point if you want to make your own adjustments afterward, because the foundation is neutral enough to build on.

One practical tip: after applying the preset, check the exposure against the specific light in your shot. Natural is calibrated for an average exposure, but a quarter stop up or down can be the difference between a photo that works and one that truly lands. Use the HSL orange slider if you want to cool down or lift the skin slightly. That gives you precise control without pulling the rest of the colour balance out of place.
