Natural

Natural does exactly what its name promises. No filter that draws attention to itself, no look that competes with the subject. The preset puts the emphasis on what is already there: a face, light, a moment. The result looks like you simply took a good photograph.

Technically, Natural moves the white balance toward a neutral position, so skin tones read correctly without being swallowed by yellow or pink. Exposure gets a gentle push toward the midtones, highlights are pulled back without creating a flat appearance, and shadows open just enough to preserve detail. The contrast is modest but present. Not the kind of contrast that dries out faces or emphasises every line, but enough to hold the frame and give skin a sense of texture. The tone curve is gentle and starts close to neutral. HSL adjustments keep skin colours alive without pushing them toward orange or pink. Blues and greens stay calm in the background.

Natural works best for portrait photography in natural light: outside on an overcast day, near a window, in open shade on a sunny afternoon. It also performs well in a studio with a softbox, as long as the light itself is reasonably neutral to begin with. Fair to medium skin tones tend to respond particularly well. But darker skin tones benefit equally from the honest colour rendering and balanced contrast.

You choose Natural when you want a reliable starting point. Not a finished result that looks identical across every shot, but a preset that removes unnecessary noise so you can make deliberate adjustments afterward. It also suits a series of portraits that need to feel consistent, without each image drifting into a different mood.

One practical tip: after applying Natural, look at the white balance first. Every situation has its own light, and a small adjustment of a few hundred kelvin can make the difference between skin that reads as natural and skin that feels slightly too cool or too warm. Use the white balance selector on a neutral area in the frame, or adjust manually. Everything else the preset has set up will already be in good shape.
