The City

Faded mint green and ochre yellow facades, warm shadows, analogue grain. Havana is the city that stopped changing in 1959 and has only grown more beautiful since. Every wall a photo, every street corner a set.

Character and mood

Havana smells like old paint, diesel, and salt. This preset captures exactly that feeling: faded mint green and ochre yellow tones, shadows that stay warm instead of dropping into pure black, and an analogue grain that gives a photo something a sharp sensor alone cannot. It is not a filter that announces itself. It is a mood that settles into the image.

Technically, Havana works from the inside out. Highlights are pulled back gently, so sky and facades hold detail without glowing. Shadows gain a warm undertone leaning toward amber, which means a dark alley never feels cold or heavy. The greens and yellows shift toward their most tired possible version, exactly the way paint looks after ten years of rain. Contrast is present but soft. Nothing pops. Texture in grain and skin is strengthened without looking like noise.

The preset works best on street photography with clear architecture, peeling plaster, coloured walls, or strong available light. But portraits in warm outdoor light respond well too. A face in front of a worn door, a hand on a rusted railing, a shadow on a pavement. Scenes with a lot of neutral grey or cool blue tones give less back. Havana needs warmth to do its work.

You reach for Havana when you want a photo that feels like a memory of a place you may never have visited. When the world in your image is allowed to have a little more character than reality offered. Not as a correction, but as a choice. The preset travels beyond Cuba or the tropics. A derelict warehouse in Rotterdam or a worn apartment block in Lisbon, if the light is right, Havana fits.

A practical tip: apply this preset to photos that are slightly overexposed. Havana handles blown highlights by taming them rather than erasing them. After applying, bring the exposure down 0.3 to 0.5 stops, then lift the shadows manually until the dark areas feel alive. That gives the preset the room it needs to breathe.
