The City

Terracotta, saffron, deep bordeaux. Scorching midday sun over the Djemaa el-Fna, then shadow as dark as ink. Marrakesh has no midtones — everything is light or dark, warm or even warmer. The medina as colour explosion.

Character and mood

Marrakesh does not ease you in. The preset drops you straight into terracotta walls, saffron yellow, deep bordeaux shadow. That is exactly what the city itself does. No gentle introduction, no gradual shift. Just a direct, warm hit of colour that places your photo somewhere immediately.

Technically, the preset pushes contrast hard, but not in a flat way. Highlights stay warm, close to orange-gold, while shadows sink toward deep bordeaux and dark brown. The midtones are deliberately compressed: Marrakesh lives in the extremes. Colours in the red and orange spectrum gain saturation, while blues and greens are pulled back. The result is an image that feels like midday sun in August, even if you shot the original in open shade.

The preset works best on street photography in warm, urban environments. Old city quarters, markets, busy squares with colourful stalls. Portraits with warm skin tones benefit as well, especially when the background offers texture: plastered walls, fabric, wood. Architecture shots of historic buildings gain a different depth. Flat lays of spices, fruit or handmade goods stand out. Anything that is already warm by nature becomes warmer still.

You reach for Marrakesh when you want a photo that commits. No pastels, no filmic coolness, no neutral foundation. This preset suits images where atmosphere carries the story. Have you shot a place with character, a moment with energy, but the edit still feels flat? This is your starting point. You do not need to have been in Morocco. A market in Amsterdam, a street in Seville, a backlit portrait anywhere, it can all work.

One practical tip: before applying the preset, bring your exposure down by half a stop. The preset lifts contrast, and if your highlights are already close to clipping you will lose detail in the brightest areas. Give yourself a little headroom first and the warmth stays intact without burning through.
