Select subject
Select subject is an AI mask in Lightroom that automatically picks out the main subject of your photo, separate from the background. One click and you have a mask around a person, animal or product, for example. With it you edit the subject precisely without touching the background.
Very handy for making your subject just a touch brighter or sharper, or for dampening the background instead. Lightroom builds the selection automatically; if an edge isn't right, you correct it by adding or subtracting with the brush. Combine the subject mask with 'Select background' to steer both separately. Tip: set the subject a fraction brighter and the background a little darker, then your subject leaps forward straight away.
