Render / export

Rendering or exporting is calculating your finished edit into a single playable video file. The program combines your clips, grade and effects and converts everything to the chosen format. This is the last step before you share or upload your film.

At export you choose your codec, bitrate, resolution and frame rate, matched to where your video is going. In DaVinci Resolve you do this on the Deliver page, in Premiere Pro via Media Encoder and in Final Cut Pro via Share. For the web H.264 or H.265 is common, for further editing ProRes instead. Tip: always make one test export of a short clip before rendering your whole film, so you catch setting mistakes in time.
