Coastline

Coastline is a preset built around stillness. Not heavy skies, not deep shadows, but the quiet space between water and horizon. It gives your images a clean, open look without feeling cold or processed. The blue stays blue, the sand stays warm, and the sky has room to breathe.

The preset works with a raised exposure and a pulled-back highlight, so light feels soft while cloud detail and wave foam are kept intact. Shadows are lifted slightly to create an airy, open tone throughout the frame. Colors are calibrated toward the cool blue and cyan range in the water, while sandy tones and neutral grays in the sky remain natural. Contrast is present but never heavy. A light noise reduction is applied, which makes Coastline work well in overcast or flat coastal light where noise tends to build in smooth gradients like sky and water.

Coastline works best on open coastal scenes: empty beaches at low tide, waterlines, dune landscapes with a flat horizon, and long-exposure shots of moving water. Piers, breakwaters, and seascapes in even light are a natural match. Scenes with a lot of sky and minimal clutter let the preset do its job cleanly. Add a crowded beach or a complex background, and the preset loses some of its effect.

You reach for Coastline when you want a series of coastal images that feel connected without looking identical. The preset gives you a consistent base you can still adjust per image. If you shoot during golden hour, the warm ambient tones sit well against the preset's cool white balance. You do not need everything to match perfectly. The light contrast makes each image flexible enough to adjust without breaking the overall look.

A practical tip: after applying Coastline, open the HSL panel in Lightroom and lower the luminance of Blue and Aqua by two to five points if the water feels too light. It is a small move that gives the sea more presence without touching anything else in the frame.
