Air Bubble

Air Bubble is a preset for photographs that breathe. The tones are soft, the light seems to come from within, and the shadows stay out of the way. The result feels light in the most literal sense. Not over-edited, not filtered, but as if the light always looked this way.

Technically, Air Bubble lifts the shadows slightly and lowers the blacks just enough to keep depth without adding weight. Highlights are pulled back into a soft, open grey-white range. Colors carry a low saturation with a gentle shift toward cool-neutral, which makes skin tones appear translucent and backgrounds recede. The contrast lives in the midtones, not the extremes. That keeps structure in the image without the eye getting caught on anything.

The preset works best in sheltered daylight or overcast conditions, where the light is already diffused. Think window-light portraits, outdoor scenes on a white winter day, or street photography in the brief moment before dark. Still life and environmental images with plenty of sky or open space also respond well. Scenes with hard shadows or very warm color temperatures need more adjustment, but that is rarely an issue when the base material is right.

You reach for Air Bubble when you want a photograph to feel calm without turning clinical. When you want the edit to be invisible and the atmosphere to be felt. That fits intimate portrait work, documentary-style photography, and any moment you want to show rather than prove.

A practical tip: apply the preset and then lower your exposure by half a stop to a full stop if the original image was already well exposed. Air Bubble performs slightly better when there is a touch of overexposure in the original file. If your RAW files have highlights that are just a little too full, this preset gives them exactly the room they need.
