Character and mood
June is a preset that feels like the month it is named after. Long evenings, skies that stay bright well past dinner, and a sense of openness that is hard to find in other seasons. It works quietly and without exaggeration, giving your photos a lightness that fits the longest days of the year.
Technically, June pulls back the highlights slightly and lifts the shadows in a subtle way. The result is an open, even exposure that never looks flat. Colors shift toward the cool, light-blue-green end of the spectrum, the kind of daylight you find in Scandinavia or along northern coastlines. Skin tones keep their warmth, while backgrounds feel cool and fresh. Contrast is intentionally low, keeping textures visible without making them feel harsh.
The preset works well for portraits shot in outdoor light, especially in the soft, diffuse hours just after golden hour or during a bright midday overcast. Street photos in open public spaces, parks, and near water also benefit from the clear tonal values. Scenes with a lot of sky in the frame, light-colored walls, and green vegetation respond particularly well to how June handles color.
You reach for June when you want a photo to feel like being outside, not like a memory of it. If your summer shots have come out too warm or too orange, this preset restores that fresh, calm quality. It also pairs naturally with travel photography in places with a clear, northern light, think the Nordic countries, the Scottish coast, or the Netherlands on a clear June morning.
A practical tip: apply the preset as it is, then adjust only the exposure to match your specific photo. The color balance and tonal distribution are already calibrated to work together. If you start tweaking the colors straight away, you quickly lose the coherence that gives June its character. Small exposure corrections are usually all you need.
