Four Seasons

Bare trees, low mist and a world that has handed in its colours. November is not a pretty month — but it is an honest one. Grey-green, subdued, quiet. For photographs that need no good weather.

Character and mood

November smells like wet earth and dead leaves. It is the month when light disappears early and colours pull back into a grey-green that is hard to name. This preset captures exactly that feeling. No dramatic black and white, no warm autumn tones. Just the cold, quiet reality of a month that apologises for nothing.

Technically, November pulls down the highlights without erasing them. The shadows receive a gentle, cool lift, so detail stays visible in the darker areas of the frame. The saturation of warm colours, reds and oranges especially, is reduced. What remains is a palette of muted greens, grey midtones and soft, overcast sky. Contrast sits between low and medium, flat in the shadows, reserved in the highlights. Everything breathes the same dull evenness you feel outside on a day in week four or five of November.

The preset works best on photographs that already carry some of that atmosphere. Street scenes on overcast days, people in hoods on wet pavements, bare parks, mist over water, the industrial edges of cities. But outdoor portraits in diffused light work well too. The flat lighting that feels like a problem on sunny days is exactly what you want here. The flatter the light in the original, the more the preset can do its work.

You choose November when you want a photograph that does not try to impress. When mood matters more than sharpness, and honesty matters more than polish. It is a preset for photographers who find moments rather than construct them. For images where the grey is not something to fix, but something to keep.

A practical tip: if you apply the preset to images that still carry some warmth in the sky or in skin tones, use the HSL slider for orange and bring it down slightly. Not all the way, because a trace of warmth inside all that cold gives the image just enough tension to keep it interesting.
