Technical LUT

A technical LUT converts your image from one color format to another, for example from log to Rec.709. It adds no look but makes your image viewable and correct in the right color space. Think of it as a translator, not a filter.

If you shoot in log, your image looks flat and greyish, and a technical LUT puts that neatly back to normal contrast and color. Apply it early in your grade, so you continue working on a correct image afterward. In DaVinci Resolve you load it in a node, in Premiere via Lumetri. Tip: don't confuse a technical LUT with a creative LUT, the latter is purely for the look.
