Flags, stars and labels
Flags, stars and colour labels are the three ways to rate and sort photos in Lightroom. With flags you pick or reject a photo, with stars you give a rating from 1 to 5 and with labels you assign a colour for your own categories. Together they form the basis of fast culling.
A handy approach is culling in two rounds: flag quickly first to separate the wheat from the chaff, then stars for the fine selection. You use colour labels for your own system, for example green for delivered or red for still to retouch. You filter on these markings at speed and build smart collections. Tip: learn the number keys 1 to 5 for stars and P and X for flags, then you cull a whole shoot in a fraction of the time.
