Sharpening (video)

Sharpening makes the edges in your video clearer, so your image looks crisper and sharper. A little sharpening adds definition, but too much makes it hard and unnatural. In video you use it more subtly than you'd be inclined to think.

Apply sharpening after you've done noise reduction, otherwise you amplify the noise along with it. In DaVinci Resolve you control this in the blur/sharpen panel on a node, in Premiere Pro via the sharpen effect. When your image moves, over-sharpening quickly shows up as jagged edges. Tip: zoom in to 100 percent and go easy, a small amount of sharpening is often enough for a crisper result.
