Tracking

Tracking makes a mask or power window move along with a subject in your image. The software follows the motion automatically, so your selection stays in place while everything moves. Essential when you want to grade a moving face or object precisely.

In DaVinci Resolve you place a power window on your subject and let the tracker run through the shot, which then follows the motion frame by frame. If the tracking isn't flawless, you can nudge individual track points by hand. Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro have similar mask tracking built in. Tip: choose a subject with enough contrast and detail to follow, a smooth, even patch loses the tracker faster.
