France – Provence

This preset captures light you won't find anywhere else. The light of Provence at midday, when shadows are short and the sky turns white at the edges. Warm, dry, slightly dusty. Cézanne painted in that same light. That's not a coincidence.

The preset brings warm tones forward: gold in the highlights, amber in the midtones. Shadows stay open but pick up a faint brown-orange undertone that makes the heat feel real. Contrast is present, but not harsh. More like the difference between stone in full sun and stone in shade. Skin tones warm up without turning orange. Blue skies deepen slightly, lavender fields take on a pink-purple glow that stays close to what you actually see.

The preset works best on photos where yellow, ochre or beige is already present. Provençal villages, old stone walls, dry fields, light falling through a window onto a white wall. But also outdoor portraits in warm backlight, street scenes with lots of stone and little green, market stalls with vegetables and fruit laid out in the sun. Any photo where the sun is in charge.

You reach for this preset when you want a photo to feel like a holiday memory that's sharper than the real thing. When you want the viewer to almost smell the dust and feel the warm stone. It also works well when you want photos taken at different times of day to share the same colour temperature, so they hold together as a series.

A practical note: the preset is calibrated for photos that are close to correct exposure. A third to half a stop under? That works fine, shadows hold detail. Blown highlights, though, won't come back with this preset. If you shoot RAW you have enough room to adjust base exposure before applying the preset. After that, if skin looks a little too luminous, bring luminance down just a touch.
