Character and mood

Salt Marsh is the quietest preset in the pack. Made for the edges of the coast, where grass, water and mud blur into one another and the colours are muted by nature. The look is salty and restrained, with sea green and a light pastel cast, and it holds on to the calm that settles over places like these.

Here is what the preset does: saturation comes down and the colours turn soft, with the emphasis on green and broken tones. The light stays mild, the contrast low, so the image looks calm and even. Nothing jumps out, and that is exactly the point. The result feels like a landscape that lets you catch your breath.

The look suits salt marshes, mudflats and coastal landscape with grass and water. A channel winding through the mud, grass flattened by the wind, a grey-green plain stretching to the horizon. Quiet nature scenes away from the coast, with muted colours, also pick up that restrained mood.

You choose Salt Marsh when you want a salty, calm tone and would rather let the landscape speak for itself. Where many presets add colour, this one takes away noise, so the mood is what remains. That works best with subjects that depend on calm and space, not on colour.

A practical tip: shoot in soft, overcast light, because that is when the look matches the scene most closely. Bright sun with hard shadows suits this restrained tone less well. Find a composition with plenty of space and a single line, like a channel or a path, so the eye has something to follow in the calm frame.
