Creative grade (look)

A creative grade is the color mood you deliberately lay over your film to strengthen atmosphere and feeling. Think of a warm golden look, a cool thriller vibe or the well-known teal-and-orange. It's the step where color helps tell the story, on top of your corrections.

Build your creative grade only after your correction is set and your shots match, otherwise your look sags on one shot and screams on another. In DaVinci Resolve you work on separate nodes for this, in Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro on a dedicated layer or effect. A creative LUT is a fine starting point that you then fine-tune toward your story. Tip: choose a look that serves the story and keep it consistent throughout your film, which reads far more professional than changing per scene.
