Film emulation

Film emulation mimics the look of classic film stocks in your digital image, including its color rendering, contrast and grain. So your footage takes on the warm, recognizable feel of analog film. It's a popular route to a truly cinematic look.

You often combine a film emulation LUT or profile with matching grain and a touch of halation for the complete effect. In DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro you load such an emulation as a LUT or plug-in and tune the strength to your image. Finish your correction cleanly first, because emulation works best on a neutral base. Tip: choose a film look that fits your story and keep the whole thing subtle, so it stays believable.
