Virtual copy

A virtual copy is a second version of a photo in Lightroom Classic without an actual file being duplicated. You can apply a different edit to it, colour next to black and white for example, without using extra disk space. The original simply stays as it is.

Ideal for trying out variants of a look or preparing a photo in several styles for different purposes. The virtual copy points to the same RAW file, only the instructions differ. You can stack copies to keep them tidy together. Tip: make a virtual copy before trying a drastic black and white conversion, so you keep the colour version safe without a doubt.
