The Masters

Airy, luminous, natural. Joel Meyerowitz abandoned black and white when everyone still thought colour wasn't serious — and proved them wrong. Warm gold on skin, clean air, open shadows. The street as idyll. Inspired by the style of Joel Meyerowitz. Not affiliated with or endorsed by him.

Character and mood

Jan Meijerts is light. Not faint or washed out, but full and open, as if the sun is just around the corner. The preset carries the feeling of summer streets, people in motion, ordinary moments that suddenly look worth keeping. No drama, no heavy processing. Just colour that feels right.

Technically, Jan Meijerts works from the highlights up. Exposure lifts without burning out, shadows stay open and readable. Skin tones take on a warm golden glow without tipping into orange. The sky keeps its clarity. Contrast is present but measured: enough structure to hold the image together, not so much that it feels dense. Colours are saturated in a way that reads as natural, with emphasis on warm tones like yellow, ochre and soft red.

The preset performs best in daylight, ideally with sidelighting or soft backlight. Street photography gains the most: people at a café, busy pedestrian streets, a Saturday market. But portraits in open shade or during golden hour also show what Jan Meijerts can do. Light clothing, light backgrounds, open sky, these are the conditions where this preset earns its keep.

You reach for Jan Meijerts when you want a photo that feels warm without being sentimental. When you take colour seriously but want nothing that shouts. The preset suits photographers who prefer working quietly, keeping attention on the moment rather than the edit. It also works well as a starting point if you want to build a consistent summer series with a luminous, airy look throughout.

A practical note: after applying the preset, adjust the exposure slider for each individual shot. Jan Meijerts is calibrated for an average exposure. With brighter frames, pull the exposure back half a stop. With darker ones, bring it up slightly. That small adjustment is often all it takes to let the colour temperature built into the preset do its work properly.
