Faded, raw, intimate. Nan Goldin photographed her friends, her lovers and herself with a consumer camera and direct flash — no distance, no filter. Lifted blacks, warm green shadow colour. Diary as art. Inspired by the style of Nan Goldin. Not affiliated with or endorsed by her.

Character and mood
Nancy Goudse is a preset for photographs that feel like memory. Not the polished kind you want to keep, but the real kind. Faded at the edges, a little too close, taken with a flash that flattens everything and makes it honest. The mood is intimate in a way you cannot plan for. You either catch it or you don't.
The preset lifts the black point so deep shadows never go fully black. That gives the image a worn quality, as if it was printed on cheap photo paper that has spent a few years in a drawer. A warm green cast sits in the shadow tones, bringing that particular colour feeling of nineties consumer film. Highlights are soft and hold their detail. The contrast is there but it doesn't cut. Everything stays visible, nothing is perfected.
Nancy Goudse works best on photographs that already have some rawness to them. Portraits in available light or direct flash. People at home, in a bar, at a party late at night. Situations where you were part of what was happening. Self-portraits. Photos of people you actually know. The preset asks for closeness. On distant compositions or cleanly lit studio work it doesn't have much to work with, because there is no texture or imperfection to bring out.
You reach for Nancy Goudse when you want a set of images that reads like a diary, not a portfolio. When you are more focused on recording than on presenting. It fits flash street photography, documentary work, personal projects where technical precision would get in the way of the story.
A practical note: apply the preset to images that are already slightly overexposed, or push the exposure up half a stop to one stop after applying it. The lifted blacks and soft highlights need room in the midtones to breathe. On a dark frame the result can look heavy and muddy. On a slightly bright one it lands exactly where it should, with that right kind of washed-out tone.
